Shipments to the USA

Important information for shipments to the USA

The United States of America is suspending its global customs exemptions for commercial shipments with a merchandise value of up to USD 800. Every shipment must be cleared through customs regardless of its value. This change will take effect on 29. August 2025 — significantly earlier than originally announced. The shipment of documents remains unrestricted.

The Executive Order dated 30. July 2025 (see Suspending Duty-Free De Minimis Treatment for All Countries – The White House) is expected to apply from 29. August 2025, and includes the following key points:

  • Duty-free import of goods under USD 800 will be revoked for all countries.
  • Every shipment must be cleared through customs regardless of its value.

What does this mean?
In light of this, the final acceptance of commercial shipments to the USA (incl. Puerto Rico) will take place on August 25, 2025. This affects merchandise shipments when sending letters and parcels via Austrian Post office locations or our shipping software. Sending gifts (even under 100 USD) is currently also not possible – except by Post Express.

The shipment of documents remains unrestricted.
Additionally, you remain flexible with our express shipping product Post Express, which allows you to reliably send commercial shipments and merchandise to the USA. Please make sure to provide the correct email address and phone number of the recipients. This is the only way to ensure your parcel arrives quickly. Import duties and customs fees must be paid by the recipients of the Post Express shipment as usual. This also applies to shipments with a goods value under 800 USD.
